Why I Paint
In addition to the usual stress that all immigrants have to survive through, I felt very nostalgic for my home, St. Petersburg, an extremely beautiful, mysterious and spiritual place.

Its architectural ensembles, embankments, and bridges were created by the most brilliant architects, invited by from all over Europe by Czar Peter the Great.

I felt totally lost in the Houston heat, dreaming about the cold, wet winds of St. Petersburg.

In an effort to escape, I started painting city landscapes of St.Petersburg and little by little the pain went away.

Eventually, it became possible to leave my past behind and make my artwork different. I fell in love with the Texas Hill Country and got a strange feeling that I somehow belonged there.

I also finally returned culturally to Judaism, feeling the strong connection with my ancestors. Thanks to my three dear sons, my family found the way back to our roots after almost 100 years of neglect.

That is what my paintings are about.

Working on my paintings, for me, is an exciting journey into my dream world and I appreciate the ability to put all my feelings down on a piece of paper.
