Watercolor - Portraits & Figures

Language fails to describe or resolve the most significant events in the realm of my experience. My paintings began as a way to talk to myself about my own life.

Being an artist creates for me a visual voice that represents feelings in Ecclesiastical extremes -- agony and ecstasy, hope and despair, humor and gravity, triumph and devastation. My artwork speaks for me about places where I have no words.

Other than silence, the comments I hear most often when someone sees my art for the first time are "wow," "evocative," and "powerful." Those reactions indicate to me that something authentic came through in the translation from my experience to my expression.

A successful opening
2008-03-09
Last night was the opening for ˇPresente! Homenaje a la Mujer, a collaboration between The Aliados con Amnesty network of Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) and Avenue 50 Studio in Highland Park, Los Angeles.

It was the first public showing of my painting "maLady," which is available for viewing on this website. There are nearly 50 works displayed in the exhibition from artists around the world. The collective images are powerful and moving. Most works are available for sale and prices range from $50 to $8,500.

The opening coincided with International Women’s Day and was well-attended. Its purpose is to celebrate women and to create awareness of AIUSA’s Stop Violence Against Women Campaign. AI was present with general information, buttons and petitions for people to sign to stop the Femicide in Guatamela.

The show runs through April 6. Please visit www.avenue50studio.com for more information and directions to the gallery.
