Although collegially trained in fiber arts, I have always found drawing and illustration fascinating and very much connected to the problem solving concepts I learned in weaving. My works on paper typify my interest in the world around me, be it landscapes, cityscapes, florals, or animals. My medium of choice is either pencil or pastels, although I recently began some new works in colored pencil accented with pen and ink. I sense a shift coming in my work in the next few months that I think will be very exciting and dramatic. Once I have new pieces, I will be posting those here. Stay tuned!

The sensuous feel of pastel
For so many years I was stuck in the black and white world of pen and ink, until I decided that I could no longer take it anymore! I'm not much of a painter (well, not yet anyway) so I decided to explore color by using pastels. It was later I was told how difficult a medium it is. For me, it's the smooth silky feel of moving the pigment around the paper, to coax it into doing what only I can make it do, to deepen its tones in some areas, and the final piece that looks silky and textured at the same time. What a rush!

Thanks, Johnathan. The title of that piece is "The Rules are Different Here" because anyone who lives with a dog understands that we live with them, not that they live with us.

Very nice work, feels like a cozy picture especially for animal lovers, feels like the dog is waiting for his frind to get there.
