I have a BS in Art Education and work as an Art Teacher for a small Montessori charter school in Florida. K-6. I began taking photographs at the age of 8, when my father bought me my first (of many) cameras and helped me develop the pictures in a bathroom darkroom. Along the way I have received much encouragement and help from his mother, who was also an Art Teacher and my Mother, who also studied Art and Fashion Design.

If you see something you like, but want a different size, please contact me so I can let you know what the pricing is for alternates.

Don't Waste Opportunities
The photo of the Weathered Barn is another example of a nearly wasted opportunity. I was driving by this barn and was on my way to an appointment. I decided to go ahead and take a couple of quick shots and come back later to really take my time.

When I returned with my tripod and plenty of time on my hands, I found that someone had just painted the beautifully weathered barn a nice, shiny, fresh, white!

Carpe Diem
I just received the official notification that all three works I submitted to Visions 2009 were accepted!

One piece is a very detailed enlargement (16x20) of two autumn leaves that are gold, red, and green with many interesting markings. Two days later, I was again hiking at Turkey Creek Preserve and found the same two leaves. In just two days, they had turned completely dry and brown, their beauty had been ephemeral.

This reminds me of why I carry a camera with me at all times. You never know when you will see something wonderful that may be gone in the blink of an eye, so "Carpe Diem"!

Seeing Details
One of the ways I like to express myself is to force the viewer to pay attention to small details that have great beauty. You may pass by a bush full of roses and never bother to really "see" the rose, to notice the curves of the petals and nuances of coloring that it has.

Besides objects that we associate with beauty, try to find something beautiful in a weathered old piece of wood, a dying leaf, or a piece of crumpled newspaper.

I challenge you to spend time every day noticing the small pieces of beauty that can be found all around us.
