What Inspires

I literally started down this path with a walk in the woods. Finding a few Cherry trees that had been squeezed and shaped by a Trumpet vine I decided to do something with them. The supply of such is limited with left me with a craving to do more, but without the Trumpet vine twist. I started to look closer and found that even simple branches possessed an artistic value that could possibly be embellished or enhanced. I try to see what might be and then work at a solution to make it happen. An example of this is the mixing of media which can be difficult but also rewarding adding interest and focal points to the work. My canes must possess a functional structure but my goal is to hide that, as best as I can. The Shillelaghs (I do stretch that definition) possess their own simplistic beauty with just a bit of my own meddling. The walking sticks are a free for all and often the most challenging.
