I enjoy the challenge of being a "purist" when painting with
watercolors. There is a childhood simplicity about the medium; water, paint, and paper (and in my case a CD continuously playing) that keeps me loyal. Music distracts my mind from not over thinking the creative process of painting. I also enjoy seeing the public's surprised reaction to the bright and bold colors that can be obtained with watercolors. Watercolor paintings don't have to be from a "wishy-washy palette.
I have been a back yard gardener here in Southern California for over 20 years and bring my garden indoors to my home studio. Each fresh and vibrant flower "portrait" is a study in color and shape. These realistic watercolors capture the character of each petal, leaf, and hue. Flowers bring enjoyment to the senses, visually and emotionally.
