Children's Art
Niigata - Japan
Mixed Media & Collage - Other/Misc.

We are a loosely organized group of very young artists who believe, first and foremost, that art should be fun. Our art is pure, it's raw, at times humorous, at other times wonderfully evocative, and sometimes even mysterious. We hope that you enjoy what you see. Please come back on occasion to see newer works. Also, don't forget to stop by and have a look at the work of our instructor at: http://www.artistsites.org/ShaunTaylor/

Through the Eyes of Children
2011-02-02
If the the art of children were to be labeled according to art styles that defined the world of art of the 20th Century, among the labels which could easily be used to categorize children's art would be the the 'isms' of Abstract Expressionism, Surrealism, Fauvism, and Art Informel. For example, the art movements known as Abstract Expressionism (U.S.) and its counterpart, Art Informel (Europe), are modes of expression which are generally intuitive and spontaneous, in contrast to the geometric abstraction of Cubism (Picasso) and Constructivism (Kandinsky). The more expressive art forms have certain things in common with children's art in that they are mostly improvisatory and often gestural. Could it have been merely by accident then that the pioneering artists of those art movements of the 20th Century were not in some way paying homage to the raw sincerety of children's art?
