I have lived in Arizona for 10 years. Some of my inspiration stems from my Afro-Mastizo cultural upbringing (a synthesis of Indigenous and African traditions). My father, who is a Zapotec (an indegenous person of Oaxaca), and my mother, who is of African decent, raised me in a small Afro-Mexican community named Lagunillas Pinotepa Nacional, in a Costa Chica (small coast) of Oaxaca, Mexico.
I was initially introduced to painting at age 13 by Glyn Jemmott Nelson, a parochial priest in the Costa Chica region, and Mario Guzman Olivares, who is currently the director of the Cultural Center "Cimarron" based in El Ciruelo, Oaxaca.
