Born 9th of 12 children by his parents in Carrol County Md in 1942 Gene Sims was initially influenced and inspired by his father Walter who was well known in the town of Westminster of being an dependable family man and incredibly hard worker. Lemore, his mother, demonstrated the determination needed by clothing her children with the help of her sewing machine, which Gene embraced later in life. Genes’ enterprising nature and constant developing desire to quench his thirst for the Creative Arts directed his movements to travel throughout the United States with appearances in California, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, New Jersey and other various states on the East Coast with Baltimore serving as his central location.
Although considered a self taught artist, due to limited or non existing opportunities available to attend a prestigious Art Academy, Gene gives all thanks and appreciation to God for he believes he could not have learned his crafts without divine intervention.
